On 7th May 2011 - 60 stout hearted adventurers ranging in age from 35 to 70 challenged the very elements as they climbed to the summit of Ben Nevis, Britain’s mightiest peak. In this most daring of ascents 60 unstoppable women battled their way to the top of this perilous mass of rock. The ladies were raising money for Carla’s Angels, Palliative Care East (James Paget Hospital). Carla died in 2009 at the age of just 33 years.
Sharon O’Mahony (Sales & Marketing Director, P&S Personnel Services Ltd) undertook this challenge. She commented that “through losing some of my own family through terminal illness I thought it was high time I did something. Also I reach 40 this year so it’s a personal challenge for me too!”.
The Palliative Care East Centre, to be built in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital, will provide a much-needed care base for patients and their families in the Great Yarmouth & Waveney area. Palliativecare supports patients and families whose lives are affected by incurable illness such as cancer or motor neurone disease. A holistic approach to care helps patients and families to come to terms with the situation and to live out the time that remains as fully as possible. Palliative care is not just about effective pain management and symptom relief but also offers emotional, spiritual and practical support.
To date, Sharon has personally raised over £2,000! If you would like to support Sharon and help raise money for this very worthwhile cause then please visit her Just Giving page to donate - http://www.justgiving.com/Sharon-O-39-Mahony.
